A disentitlement is a postponement of benefits for a definite or indefinite period. It is usually imposed until you can prove that you are eligible for benefits. Reasons for disentitlement include:
You do not have enough hours to qualify
You did not make your application within the 30 day period or renew your claim in a timely fashion
You have not made yourself ‘available’ to accept a job
A disqualification is both a postponement of benefits and a loss of entitlement. You can be disqualified if:
You voluntarily left your employment without Just Cause
You lost your employment for Misconduct
You refused to apply for suitable employment
You did not take advantage of an opportunity for suitable employment
You failed to carry out any written direction of the Commission given to help you find suitable employment
You failed to attend an arranged claimant assistant interview
You failed to attend a course of instruction or training referred to you by the Commission.
You have the right to appeal any decision within 30 days of receiving it, and if you do so it is a good idea to get some advice and representation.
